Unlike its predecessor, which was built on the D1 platform shared with the Bentley Continental GT and Flying Spur, the Phaeton D2 sedan used the current Touareg’s MLB bogie. Actually, already in 2016, it was equipped with the Innovision digital cockpit, which appeared on the crossover only two years later. Unfortunately, Volkswagen doesn’t reveal which engine is on the prototype, but the latest Phaeton versions came with 3.6 VR6 (280 hp, 370 Nm) and 4.2 V8 (335 hp, 430 Nm).
