Volkswagen is organizing to find suppliers of automotive cables needed for the production of its cars outside Ukraine, while its supply from this country, already in bad shape, risks stopping completely. “We are preparing for a total shutdown” of cable production in Ukraine due to the Russian military operation, the manufacturer’s boss Herbert Diess said on Tuesday. As a result of serious disruptions at its Ukrainian suppliers, several European factories of the German group have had to suspend their car production in recent weeks. Other manufacturers encounter the same type of difficulties. Many equipment manufacturers have automotive wiring harnesses manufactured in Ukraine. Volkswagen is thus supplied in nine Ukrainian factories which still produce at a reduced rate representing 30 to 40% of the normal, explained Mr. Diess.
