At Volkswagen, will the famous GTI badge soon be affixed to an electric car? The brand has just given the answer.

This was stated by Andreas Mindt, the brand’s design manager, who announced the news on Instagram : “The Golf GTI was first revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1975, with a production run of 5,000 examples. To date, we have sold more than 2.8 million. In 2026, we will present an electric version of this iconic model”.
The Volkswagen ID GTI would be a 286 hp front-wheel drive car?
For the moment, the technical data remains unknown. However, the bombinette might probably recover the new APP550 electric machine shared within the group: completely revised compared to the outgoing unit, this can deliver up to 286 hp. As on the next ID.2, the engine would be placed at the front.
Battery size and other encrypted data will only be known later. You will therefore have to show a little more patience to discover this renewal in the history of the brand, which will rub shoulders closely with the next Alpine A290, the spicy version of the Renault 5.
