Certificates were awarded to the lively applause of the audience in the full house for Claudia Bauer (production of the year), Samouil Stoyanov (actor of the year), Patricia Talacko (stage design of the year) and Andreas Auerbach (costumes of the year). Director Kay Voges, who thanked the “greatest team in Vienna” for their work in the “most beautiful theater in Vienna”, was presented with no winner’s certificate, but one for “an excellent second place” in the overall “Theater of the Year” ranking.
City Councilor for Culture Veronica Kaup-Hasler (SPÖ) assured in a short speech: “We stand by this theatre!” The Volkstheater initially had “very difficult times” and developed into a “lighthouse of the theatre”, for which Vienna is envied throughout the German-speaking world. She is also pleased that the Volkstheater received eleven nominations in seven categories (although she also counted the audience award) in the Nestroy Prize nominations announced just that day. Voges advertised that there were many reasons to buy theater tickets. “humanistää! – an abolition of divisions” is back on the schedule on October 16th.
