The former deputy speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Bashir Haddad, confirmed, on Wednesday, that the visit of the Prime Minister of Kurdistan Region, Masrour Barzani, to Baghdad is a step in the “right direction.”

Today, Wednesday, January 11, 2023, the President of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Masrour Barzani, arrived in Baghdad at the head of a high-level government delegation.

He was received by Masrour Barzani, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and a number of senior government figures.

Bashir Haddad said in an interview with Kurdistan 24, “The visit of the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government to Baghdad is a step in the right direction,” stressing that it “shows the goodwill of the Kurdistan Regional Government to implement the agreements signed between Erbil and Baghdad.”

Haddad added, “The outstanding problems between Erbil and Baghdad are not related to the budget, salaries, oil and gas, and Article 140 only.”

“The problems are much bigger and deeper than that…the problems are 100 years old,” he added.

Haddad expressed his hope “that the Iraqi Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia’a al-Sudani, will be able to maintain a balance between the components of Iraq.”

This is the third visit that Masrour Barzani has made to Baghdad since he took over the presidency of the ninth ministerial formation, and the first visit after Al-Sudani assumed the position of prime minister.
