The agreement will bring storage, security and AI support to customers of Vodafone in 15 countries, as well as its partners in 45 other markets around the worldwhile Google will use Vodafone’s fixed and mobile connectivity services to improve workforce productivity. By using these services, our customers can discover new ways to learn, create and communicate, as well as consume television, on a scale we have not seen before.” Despite this, Google has only one current mobile phone model, the Google Pixel. “This expanded agreement with Vodafone will help bring our most advanced AI products and services, including our Gemini models, to more people in Europe and Africa,” said Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet. “I’m excited to see how Vodafone users, small businesses and governments will use generative AI and Google Cloud to transform the way they work and access information.””.

Vodafone and Google will work to improve Vodafone TV (which runs on Android TV), using Google Cloud’s advanced generative AI capabilities to provide additional content discovery, rewards and offers features, as well as content monetization with Google Ad Manager to provide a better advertising experience. The teams are also exploring a more integrated YouTube experience across all Vodafone TV devices.

In parallel, Vodafone and Google Cloud already have a strong history of collaboration. The companies have worked together to create a data repository (data lake) which hosts Vodafone data and its existing data analytics and AI services on Google Cloud to ensure maximum security and compliance with legal requirements. With this extension of the existing agreement, Vodafone will use Vertex AI, Google Cloud’s enterprise AI platform, to build, deploy and scale machine learning models and AI applications powered by Google Gemini models. This will help increase the speed and ease with which Vodafone operating companies, across multiple countries, can innovate and launch new products.

Through this partnership, Vodafone aims to offer its enterprise customers enhanced cyber protection with its own cloud-native cybersecurity solution, which it is developing, using the Google Cloud Security Operations Platform. It will provide security event and incident management as well as the latest software-based protection tools. Vodafone will also use Google Cloud’s security operations platform when developing certain products and services to further ensure their security by default to help keep customers safe online. Both companies intend to jointly promote the use of universal industrial standards in areas such as online security, responsible development of AI, network performance and interoperability to drive economies of scale in industrial efficiency, drive innovation and improve public services. Through this partnership, Vodafone will put AI-powered cloud, content and connectivity in the hands of more people.
