The extreme metal supergroup around David Vincent (Ex-MORBID ANGEL) and Rune Eriksen (Ex-MAYHEM) has announced their second, long-awaited album with “Epic” and immediately offers the first single “Miserere”.
THE LAST have been a legend since the beginning of metal. Rune Eriksen took over the ax wielding for the second edition of Mayhem. Flo Mounier has been drumming for Cryptopsy since the first exhumations of the Canadian underground. And who might forget David Vincent, the larger-than-life singer of MORBID ANGEL.
Having already made history, some metalheads may have stroked their beards and wondered if there were any new territories left for this band to conquer. After all, their debut was voted Album of the Year by Zero Tolerance Magazine and BangerTV. But on their new album, VLTIMAS scale truly epic heights.
“Epic” will be released on March 15, 2024.
Watch the video for “Miserere” here:
VLTIMAS have been making major declarations of war for more than 30 years, but “Miserere” is not just another offering on the altar of madness. “I spread my misery, biblically grown,” Vincent sings in a baritone so monstrous it might summon an army of the dead. The drums race forward mercilessly, mowing down all spectators under a barrage of surgical blast beats while riffs hail from every direction with enough firepower to shatter bulletproof glass.
LAST TIMES:
„The world throws us all trials and tribulations constantly. We use this angst as a weapon in our art to score the apocalypse„.

Extreme metallers VLTIMAS (pronounced ‘uhl-tuh-mas’) are attacking metaldom once once more with their highly anticipated second album EPIC via Season of Mist. The multinational quintet features the Norwegian guitarist Rune “Blasphemer” Eriksen (ex-Mayhem, Aura Noir), the American singer David Vincent (ex-Morbid Angel) and the Canadian drummer Flo Mounier (Cryptopsy), which is accompanied by the Dutch bassist Ype TVS (ex-Dodecahedron) and the Portuguese guitarist João Duarte (Corpus Christii) continue on their way. Driven by strength and integrity, VLTIMAS strengthened their signature with wicked ingenuity on their debut “Something Wicked Marches In” (2019), which was praised by Decibel Magazine, BangerTV, Louder and many others. The singles “Miserere,” “Scorcher,” and “Invictus” showcase a band of musicians at the peak of their powers, united in their pursuit of unity.
David Vincent reveals:
“We wrote every track on EPIC together at my ranch in Dime Box, Texas. The writing sessions were as organic as they might be. There were times when Rune would pick up his guitar at the end of the night and play something ridiculous. Flo then played something even more ridiculous. I then said to the boys: ‘I have to capture this’. The magic [von VLTIMAS] So it consists of us being in a room together, discussing, playing, recording music and everything else we do together. We have an incredible camaraderie.”
The members of VLTIMAS may not be atavists, but their preferred creative methods are tried and tested. Technology has its place, but the group thrives best when together and not separated from the world. Known as a riff innovator, Eriksen is more effective when he has a highly capable sideman like Vincent or Mounier at his side, whose drumming on Cryptopsy and his acclaimed instructional DVD Extreme Metal Drumming 101 proved he knows no limits . Whether it’s the moody, edgy attack of “Miserere”, the wicked groove of “Mephisto Manifesto” or the dark fury of “Nature’s Fangs”, VLTIMAS’ chemistry and commitment is undeniable.
Rune Eriksen added:
“The main goal [von VLTIMAS] is to be real. To channel the moment, to let the true inspiration out. I don’t think I ever set a goal of what an album should or must sound like before I or we write it, because that means I have to make compromises during the process. With EPIC we focused on more direct songs and trimmed the fat, unlike Something Wicked Marches In which had a progressive and ‘playful’ feel.”
