Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un Hold Summit at Vostochny Cosmodrome: Exploring Economic Cooperation, Humanitarian Issues, and Regional Affairs

Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un sat down for talks Wednesday at Russia’s Vostochny Cosmodrome space center, where Putin told reporters the two “have a lot” to discuss.

“I am very happy to see you and welcome you back to Russia. This time, as we agreed, at the Vostochny cosmodrome,” Putin said, sitting next to Kim. “Of course, we need to talk regarding issues of economic cooperation, humanitarian issues and the situation in the region. We have many questions [que discutir]”.

Kim thanked Putin for his invitation to the country and said the two countries have “many issues” on which they can cooperate.

“As you said, the agenda between our countries, including political, economic and cultural issues. The North Korean leader went on to tell Putin that it was an honor that the meeting was held “in this special place, a space launch site that is like the heart of the space power, of which your country has the status, and that provides this opportunity to have a deeper understanding of the space power of today and tomorrow.

Kim also praised Russia for having “confronted hegemonic forces” to defend its sovereignty and security, in a veiled reference to the US and the West, and said he had expressed “full and unconditional support for everything Russia does in answer”.

“And that on the front line of anti-imperialism and independence I will always stand with Russia, I am taking this opportunity to make it clear,” said the North Korean leader.

The meeting between the leaders lasted more than an hour, according to the state media Russia 1.

Before the meeting, U.S. officials warned that a potential arms deal might see Pyongyang provide weapons for Moscow to use in the war once morest Ukraine.
