The Russian opponent Vladimir Kara-Murzasentenced to 25 years in prison accused of “treason” and for denouncing Moscow’s offensive once morest Ukrainearrived at the high-security penal colony of Omsk, in Siberia, to serve his sentence, his lawyer reported on Sunday (09/24/2023).
Considered one of the main detractors of Vladimir PutinKara-Murza, who has dual Russian and British nationality, was sentenced to an unprecedented sentence in April, prompting international leaders and supporters to call for his release. The opponent was found guilty of spreading “false information” regarding the Army and having links to an “undesirable organization” in a closed-door trial in Russia.
“Vladimir Kara-Murza was transferred to the maximum security penal colony IK-6 in Omsk to serve his sentence,” said his lawyer, Vadim Prokhorov, in Facebook.
Omsk is regarding 2,700 kilometers east of Moscow. The Russian penal system usually takes weeks to transfer prisoners to the most remote prisons in the country, and the whereregardings of a prisoner in transit is often unknown, stopping at several penitentiaries along the way.
“The trip from Moscow to Omsk, in the 21st century, lasted no less than three weeks,” Prokhorov said ironically, adding that he remained “several days” in an isolation cell in the city of Samara, in the center of the country.
The lawyer warned that confining Kara-Murza, 42, in this type of cells endangers his fragile health. The opponent’s lawyers and family claim that she suffers from a nervous disease called polyneuropathy due to two poisoning attempts.
