Vivo’s new smartphones can change color

The new V23 and V23 Pro were officially launched by Vivo on Wednesday. The Chinese manufacturer has launched the marketing of these new mid-range devices on the Indian market. Dual selfie camera, color changing glass, Dimensity chip, fast charging … We take stock of the latest series of Vivo smartphones.

The V23 series takes up the torch of the V20 and V21 in Vivo’s mid-range smartphone range. The Chinese brand announced their release, their characteristics and their prices on the occasion of a video unveiled for the CES 2022. The V23 and the V23 Pro are notably equipped with two front cameras with a main sensor of 50 Mpx, MediaTek Dimensity chips and benefit from the fast charge in 44 W. In addition to this dual camera, they stand out on the design side by the use of ‘a special color-changing glass.

Regarding the famous colors, both models are available in Sunshine Gold. The smartphone then turns from gold to blue green when exposed to direct sunlight. This is made possible by the use of Fluorite AG glass on the back of the device, which changes color in 5 to 6 minutes. The V23 and V23 Pro have almost the same design, with one difference: the edges. They are flat for the classic model, 3D rounded for the Pro. It will also be noted that these new models are generally very close to the Vivo S12 and S12 Pro presented a short time ago.

The specifications of the new Vivo V23

The V23 has a 6.44-inch 90 Hz Full HD AMOLED screen. On the chip side, it features a MediaTek Dimensity 920 and is available in two versions (8 GB of RAM / 128 GB of storage and 12 GB of RAM / 256 GB Storage). For the photos and videos part, the latest Vivo has no less than 5 sensors in total. On the back are three cameras (a main 64 MP, an ultra-wide-angle 8 MP, a macro sensor of 2 MP). On the front panel have been integrated a main sensor of 50 MP and an ultra-wide-angle sensor of 8 MP, as well as two dual-tone flashes, like on the Vivo S12 Pro. The V23s are clearly geared towards selfie use.

The V23 Pro, on the other hand, clearly provides a power boost. It has a larger 6.56-inch screen, as well as an SoC Dimensity 1200, which is equivalent to a Snapdragon 888. The photo modules are almost similar, except for the main sensor which this time peaks at 108 MP.

What about autonomy? Both smartphones benefit from the fast 44 W recharge. The battery capacity of the Pro model slightly exceeds that of the classic model, with 4300 mAh against 4200 mAh.

Both devices run on Android 12 via Funtouch OS 12 and are 5G compatible.

V23 prices and availability

The V23 Pro starts at Rs 38,990 (around 460 €) for the version with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. The V23 was launched at Rs € 29,990) for 8GB / 256GB.

The brand announced that smartphones will be available from January 13 for the Pro and January 19 for the classic model. They will first be offered on the markets of Southeast Asia, in particular India, then Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand. Europe will see the arrival of these two smartphones “within the next few months”.
