Vivo has announced its latest flagship X80 Pro, and the most important new feature in the hardware is the large in-screen fingerprint sensor. The active area is much larger than the tiny sensors on most Android phones these days, which means it’s easy to unlock your mobile without looking at the screen to align your thumb.
A scanner has many benefits beyond just being physically large. Instead of pressing multiple times like regular phones, each finger can be registered with a single tap on the screen. This will work very quickly even if your hands or the screen are wet. The large space means the phone can be set up to request two fingerprints at the same time for additional authentication.
The technology of the “3D ultrasonic large fingerprint sensor” actually comes from Qualcomm, which it calls “3D Sonic Max”. defamation It is included in the latest phone from the iQOO sub-brand of the gaming-focused company Vivo. The X80 Pro represents the most significant deployment of this technology to date.
As a company, Vivo has done more than anything else to popularize in-display fingerprint sensors. The first global application on the charging phone In 2018. Vivo demonstrated extensive scanning surface areas Apex concept phonesincluding The ‘full view’ version of the 2019 modelBut the X80 Pro was one of the first commercial devices to ship with a size larger than the tip of your thumb.
These days Vivo is known for its camera power, and it focuses more on the X80 Pro. The Zeiss-branded camera hardware (complete with T*-branding coating on the lenses) is the same we saw with last year’s X70 Pro Plus, although the Vivo X80 Pro’s Plus version has yet to be announced. The giant camera pump has a 50MP main sensor, a 48MP ultrawide shooter, a 12MP 2x telephoto, and an 8MP 5x periscope. One difference is that the 2x lens now uses Vivo’s Kimble-style optical stabilization.
It uses a new dedicated imaging chip called Vivo V1 Plus. Like Oppo’s MariSilicon X chip that was launched earlier this year, the V1 Plus devices are designed to handle image processing in tough situations such as shooting video at night. Another processing-intensive case on the X80 Pro is the “Cinema Video Bokeh” mode, which is designed to mimic the oval bokeh seen in scenes with a shallow depth of field on undistorted Zeiss lenses. Vivo claims that the chip allows for reduced power consumption.
Other specs of the X80 Pro are typical of the 2022 Android flagship. It has a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The screen is a 6.78-inch curved OLED panel with a resolution of 1440 pixels with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The battery is 4700 mAh and charges up to 80W via cable or 50W wireless via Vivo’s own fast charging system.
We don’t yet have information on pricing or the regional release of the X80 Pro. It will hit Vivo’s regular markets in India, Europe and East Asia.
