The newcomer benefits from clear improvements regarding its screen. While the Vivoactive 4 was satisfied with a 1.3 inch LCD panel (260 x 260 pixels), the Vivoactive goes to 1.2 inch, in Oled technology, and with a superior definition (390 x 390 pixels). ). This panel is integrated into a lighter case (23 grams) thanks to the use of aluminum instead of the stainless steel of the Model 4, and smaller (42.2 x 42.2 x 11.1 mm, versus 45.1 x 45.1 x 12.8 mm). Overall, we see that Garmin has worked on the design of its watch so that it becomes more elegant and compact, by reducing the borders of its screen and softening its contours.

Garmin nevertheless equips the Vivoactive 5, waterproof to 5 ATM, with multiple sensors. GPS, pulse oximeter, heart rate sensor are of course on the menu, for sports monitoring that is a little less ambitious than with the other watches in its catalog. The Vivoactive 5 nevertheless promises a plethora of features dedicated to physical activities (30 types of indoor and outdoor sports are available from the watch), the measurement of the Body Battery specific to the brand or the indication of the recommended recovery times following the sessions. We also appreciate the addition of support for wheelchair activities. In terms of well-being, the Vivoactive 5 provides sleep monitoring, supplemented by a report available each time you wake up, but also offers functions such as meditation sessions. Added to all this is the receipt of notifications, access to offline playlists with services such as Spotify or Deezer, and payment via Garmin Pay.

The Vivoactive 5 gains in functionality, but also in autonomy, even if Garmin does not specify the exact capacity of its battery. The manufacturer promised 8 days of use with the Model 4, and now announces 11 days before having to charge its successor. We imagine that the ambient light sensor, now included, helps to improve its endurance.

Available in a single format, while the Vivoactive 4 was available in a more compact 4S version (40 mm screen instead of 45 mm), the Vivoactive 5 retains the price of its predecessor. So count on €299 for this city watch which can be connected to an Android smartphone or an iPhone, a Venu 3 being billed at €499.
