Vivo Singapore today revealed the Vivo Y78. As usual for a mid-range phone, it was a quiet launch without too much fanfare or marketing appeal. However, the phone provides decent specifications such as the Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 and an OLED screen. It is worth noting that the Vivo Y78 is not the same phone that was launched in China earlier this month. The new device comes with a larger screen with different chipsets. It is similar to Vivo Y78+ but still different.
Vivo Y78 specifications
One of the most attractive details of the Vivo Y78 is its 6.78 inch screen. This is an AMOLED display with Full HD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. AMOLED screens are finally becoming popular in the mid-range market, and the Vivo Y78 is the latest contender to bring vivid colors and true blacks to this category. The phone also offers a 20:9 aspect ratio and an under-display fingerprint scanner. The screen is slightly curved, which gives a premium feel to the smartphone. It is extremely narrow at 7.9mm thick and lightweight at just 177g.
Vivo has had to cut some corners to keep the price attractive. The phone has a plastic body, but the good part is that it has an IP54 body. This rating makes the phone dust resistant and allows it to withstand some water splashes.
In terms of optics, Vivo Y78 is equipped with a 64MP camera with f/1.8 aperture and OIS. It also has a 2MP macro camera on the back and a 2MP depth camera. This narrative differs from what we usually see on Vivo Y-series smartphones. For selfies and video calls, the phone has a 16MP shooter inside a central punch-hole cutout.
The phone comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 processor at the front. This chipset is getting old at this point when we talk regarding performance, but it’s good enough and offers 5G connectivity. The phone comes with 8GB of RAM which is excellent for multitasking, and it has an internal storage of 256GB. There is no micro SD card slot for further expansion. The phone runs Funtouch OS 13 right out of the box.
Vivo Y78 packs a 5,000mAh battery with support for 44W fast charging. The phone comes bundled with an 11V/4A charger and a USB Type C cable in the box.
