Vivid memories one year after the sinking of the Esther miracle ferry –

Emotions were at their height on Saturday morning at the entrance to Port Molle on the occasion of the commemoration of the sad first anniversary of the sinking of the boat Esther miracle which ensured the Libreville – Port Gentil connection on the night of March 8 to 9, 2023 .

The 124 survivors as well as the families of the 30 dead people and 7 others who were missing met in a tent for meditation. The Prime Minister of the Transition, Raymond Ndong Sima was president. Several members of his government as well.

Several participants broke down in tears while listening to the numerous testimonies of survivors.

Zita, a young woman explained how she lost 5 members of her family in this ship when there were 11 on board.

Commander Noël Mougoula who saved the 124 survivors with his boat “Le Celeste” created emotion by affirming that the hardest thing for him was to leave the scene of the tragedy knowing that he could not save all the victims .

Survivors and parents of victims are not necessarily asking for money but for consideration and reparation. They ardently hope that it will be erected in memory of the victims so that this tragedy will never be forgotten.

The ceremony ended with a laying of flowers and candles.
