From Movies to Mogul: Vivek Oberoi Found Financial Freedom Through Business
For Vivek Oberoi, acting isn’t just a passion; it’s a cycle. He acknowledged in a recent confession that "Cinema is my first love" but to him, it’s also a source of funding for other ventures. The actor, a name synonymous with Bollywood for over two decades, has been diligently carving a path into the world of business in the past few years.
Today, the dynamic star has built a portfolio oscillating between the glitz of showbiz and the grit of entrepreneurship, successfully turning passion into profit.
But that wasn’t always the equation.
“My life is a circle," Vivek stated thoughtfully. "Cinema gives you a brand, and with undeniable hard work, you can leverage that into something bigger. Business provides a financial push and tremendous income – also, ultimately, you reach a purpose beyond anyone’s hobbies, gains or money. It defines you as a human being,” he trailed off, “In my case, it’s philanthropy.”
Within this domain, the once honored for his roles, found freedom. The freedom to choose films for the love of the craft, not just for the paycheck.
H3: Compromises and Realisations
Now, he picks roles close to his heart, but the road to get here wasn’t paved with roses. He admits to having faced insecurity — that
common gripe for many actors navigating the ups and downs of Bollywood, "There have been times I felt insecure . The kind that makes you feel like, ‘Let me do this, otherwise I will get mad just sitting at home.’”
The system hadn’t always been kind. "Sometimes, I needed the money," he admits, “maybe I needed to suck up to this powerful person, so they’d push me forward, even if the role itself was less than ideal?" Vivek described the trial-and-error phase-"
The moment he got a handle of business was a powerful learning moment:
"Females, if we are smart enough, business-wise or financially, I don’t have to partner often. Go for it simply for the love of it,” He paused, hinting at researching for charity.
A modified approach, is to determine not what I truly want. That frees you up.”
