It is the polluted soil washing plant equipped with the most modern treatment technology in Europe. And it is located in Péry, more particularly in the industrial zone of Rondchâtel. The brand new building is impossible to miss when driving on the A16 motorway. This complex now houses VITO Recycling, the result of a collaboration between the cement manufacturer Vigier and the Zurich company Toggenburger.
In this place, contaminated mineral construction waste will be treated with the aim of recovering it as much as possible. “98% will be recycled in the form of gravel, sand and materials for the cement plant”, explains Olivier Barbery, chairman of the board of directors of VITO Recycling and director of Vigier. He himself does not hide it: this new installation will serve the interests of the cement manufacturer from Péry. “If we take the products that will come out of the factory, this corresponds to a gravel pit of medium-upper size”, explains the manager. In total, 200,000 tons can be recycled each year in this plant.
At present, seven people work at the same time in the complex which aims to be a model of the circular economy. The concept was taken to the supply of water used to clean the materials. The blue gold is not drawn from the Suze but collected during precipitation. After having been used, it will itself be treated in specific filters then reinjected into the internal circuit, details the general manager of VITO Recycling Beat Ruchti. /amo
