Vitamin D supplementation is effective in relieving depression

A study found that vitamin D supplementation was effective in relieving depression.

On the 15th (local time), the medical news portal News Medical Life Science published data on 41 clinical trials related to vitamin D-depression published in the world by a research team led by Professor Tuomas Mikola of the Institute of Clinical Medicine at Eastern University of Finland. As a result of comprehensive analysis, it was reported that this fact was revealed.

According to the report, in the entire clinical trial, the group taking vitamin D supplementation showed less depression than the control group who did not take it.

The doses of vitamin D supplements taken were significantly different, but those taking 50-100 μg (micrograms) were the most common.

Vitamin D is known to regulate the functions of the central nervous system. Disturbances in the central nervous system are associated with depression.

However, the research team acknowledged that “the certainty of the evidence is low due to the risk of population heterogeneity and bias in the results of this clinical trial.” It is said that more evidence from further studies is needed.

Meanwhile, the results of this study were published in the latest issue of ‘Critical Reviews in Food Science and Nutrition’, an American journal of food and nutrition.
