Dr. Hossam Mawafi, Professor of Critical Cases at Kasr Al-Ainy Faculty of Medicine, revealed that there is a serious type of anemia, called pernicious anemia.

Mowafi said during his program, “Rabbi Zadni Alma”, broadcast on Sada Al-Balad channel, that pernicious anemia occurs when vitamin B12 levels drop sharply in the body.

The professor of critical care medicine added that the lack of vitamin B12 in the body not only causes anemia, but also increases the risk of other diseases, such as neuritis, acidity and flatulence.

He explained that vitamin B12 plays a major role in the formation of red and white blood cells and platelets and in promoting the health of the central nervous system, noting that it is only found in animal protein sources.
