Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit Mongolia, a member of the International Criminal Court (ICC) on September 3. The Kremlin says the visit will not result in his arrest.
As reported by Anadolu, Saturday (8/31), a statement from the Kremlin said that Putin will meet with Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh during his visit. The leaders are expected to discuss bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues, while several documents are expected to be signed.
As part of his visit, Putin will also meet with Mongolian Parliament Speaker Dashzegve Amarbayasgalan and Mongolian Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrai. When asked whether Mongolia’s accession to the ICC, which issued an arrest warrant for Putin, had raised concerns in the Kremlin, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said he was not concerned about the visit.
As part of its investigation into crimes committed in Ukraine, the ICC announced in March 2023 that arrest warrants had been issued for Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russian Commissioner for Children’s Rights Maria Lvova-Belova. Mongolia is one of 124 countries that have signed the Rome Statute, and is a member of the ICC. (I-2)
