Visit to schools helps improve “Zero Hunger” program, says minister

Asuncion, IP Agency.- The Minister of Social Development, Tadeo Rojas, praised the visit to educational institutions that allowed him to verify in situ the implementation of the Zero Hunger program, which covers 90 municipalities in the country. The MDS is in charge of the service in the Central department, Presidente Hayes and Asunción.

Rojas continued on Friday with the tour of educational institutions that serve school lunch, this time in the “cooking” mode, in the city of Villa Elisa, Central department.

According to the MDS report, lunch was served without any problems, and again the opinions regarding quality, taste, quantity, and hygiene in the service were positive.

At the Reino de Suecia School, students and teachers, who came dressed as characters from films and comics, thanked the minister for implementing this program.

Also in Villa Elisa, at the “Diego Medina Parodi” School, which has 120 students, the children finished the celebration and, after washing their hands, they were served the daily menu consisting of noodles with sauce, beet salad, and mamón jam, as dessert.

Visit to schools helps improve “Zero Hunger” program, says ministerThe observation made by the director Norma Parodi is that the children liked the food prepared on the spot, 100% cooked at school, as stipulated in the contracts, much more.

On one occasion, the salads came already prepared in advance, so the students already noticed that small difference, she said.

Some corrections were made in Ypané

Later, the minister went to the “Miguel Torales” School in the city of Ypané, where a group of students were also having lunch. However, it was discovered that there was still no space for cooking on site, so the food was prepared elsewhere and transported to the institution.

The company in charge was immediately ordered to take the necessary measures to correct this deficiency, which meant that the food was already arriving at the school cold due to transportation. It was also noted that there was a lack of more kitchen assistants.

The minister praised this tour, which allows him to see situations that occur within the framework of the complexity of this project, which now reaches 90 municipalities in the country. The Ministry of Social Development is in charge of the service in the Central, Presidente Hayes and Asunción departments.

In the rest of the country, the program is administered by the governorates. In educational institutions in 22 of the 90 districts, lunch is served up to the third year of high school. In the remaining 68 municipalities, lunch is served to students up to the ninth grade.
