The visit of her delegation was a great success Association of Hellenic Aerospace Security and Defense Companies (E.EL.EA.A.A.) and 14 Greek companies, members of the Union, at the company’s shipyard Naval Group in Lorient in France.
The Greek delegation had the opportunity to exchange views with Naval Group executives on the possibilities of cooperation between the French shipyard and the Greek industry, and to explore opportunities for the inclusion of Greek companies in the international supply chain of the Naval Group, in addition to the ongoing discussions in the context of the negotiations that are already underway.
The Greek delegation visited the Navy in the French shipyard, while later the speeches of the Director of the Hellenic Shipbuilding Program of the Naval Group and the President of E.EL.EA.A.A. followed.
In his speech o President of E.EL.EA.A.A. Mr. Nikolaos Papatsas, he referred to the close historical relations linking France and Greece, the cooperation of the Greek Navy with the French shipbuilding industry since the end of the 19th century, the construction in Greece since the late 1970s of a number of French-designed ships and the current cooperation between France and Greece for the construction of the 3 FDI HN type frigates.
Subsequently, Mr. Papatsas pointed out the importance of the Greece-France Strategic Cooperation Agreement in the field of Defense and Security, the capabilities and experience of the Greek defense industries in international defense programs, as well as the prospects for cooperation between the Greek and French defense industries in existing and future programs.
The Greek delegation had the opportunity to tour the shipyard’s facilities and learn regarding the construction progress of the Navy’s FDI HN Kimon (F-601) type frigate, as well as the Navy’s second Gowind type corvette, Al Emarat (P111). of the UAE, which was launched in May 2022. There was also a presentation of the cooperation proposal of the Greek companies in the programs of the French shipyard and a presentation of the capabilities of the Greek companies of the delegation.
In the context of the visit of the delegation of E.EL.EA.A. at Lorient, sealed by Mr. Athanasios Tsiolka, President of EAS, the already existing signed collaboration agreement of EAS with Naval Group. The agreement is activated with the selection of the French Gowind corvettes from Greece and concerns the co-production of the state-of-the-art MU90 light torpedoes at the EAS factory, which will equip the new FDI HN type frigates and the Gowind corvettes.
