Vishwa’s voice in the commentary box stopped; BBC football commentator John Motson is no more

LONDON: One of the most recognizable voices in British sport for more than half a century has died. Famous BBC football commentator John Motson (77) has died. Family sources said on Thursday that he died in his sleep.

Motson, known as Moti, was a commentator for Britain’s national broadcaster at 10 World Cups, as many European Championships and 29 FA Cup finals between 1968-2018. The BBC estimates that Motsen has refereed nearly 2,500 matches.

Awarded an Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2001 for services to sports broadcasting.
