Visas for the US that Cubans can apply for in Havana

What visas to the US can Cubans apply for in Havana, at the American headquarters on Malecón? All the details below.

The U.S. Embassy in Cuba has expanded its consular services. What types of visas can Cubans apply for in Havana to enter the U.S. and what can they do to obtain them?

Frustration among Cubans continues to mount over delays in issuing visas for family reunification and other procedures, as well as slow visa processing by the U.S. Embassy in Havana.

According to the headquarters, they are operating at “half capacity” due to a lack of staff and other limitations in their operations.

Currently, the Embassy prioritizes the issuance of immigrant visas, leaving tourist or business visas, B1 or B2, in the background.

US visas currently being processed in Havana

The Consular Section is processing applications for immigrant visas, such as IR1, IR2, IR5, F11, F21, and F22, among others, in addition to Diversity Visas, known in Cuba as “el Bombo.”

As of this month, processing of seven types of nonimmigrant visas has also been reactivated, including the H Visa for temporary workers or trainees, the J Visa for exchange visitors, the L Visa for transfers within the same company, the O Visa for individuals with extraordinary abilities or achievements, the P Visa for athletes, artists and entertainers, the Q Visa for participants in cultural exchange programs, and the R Visa for members of religious communities who perform religious work.

What about tourist or business visas? These will continue to be processed in a third country, especially in Guyana for Cubans. So far this reactivation is not foreseen.
