India has invited people to a virtual G20 summit this Wednesday, at which Russian President Vladimir Putin also wants to speak. India chairs the leading industrialized and emerging economies until the end of the month. Brazil then takes over the presidency.
At the G20 summit in September, Putin was represented by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. China’s President Xi Jinping also stayed away at the time – and will not be attending on Wednesday either. Prime Minister Li Qiang will be there for this, said a Foreign Office spokeswoman in Beijing. The world situation is turbulent and the drivers for the recovery of the global economy are inadequate. The G20 countries should strengthen their cooperation. A joint statement is not expected, Indian media reported.
