Although the vaccine from the Valneva company has now been approved, the willingness to vaccinate is still low in Austria. The VLA2001 vaccine is the only whole virus vaccine candidate (“dead vaccine”) developed in Europe by the Austro-French company Valneva. VLA2001 is the sixth vaccine for the corona vaccination approved in the EU. With “Valneva” first and second vaccinations are currently possible for people between 18 and 50 years of age. These two vaccinations are given four weeks (28 days) apart. The vaccine is currently not approved for completing the basic immunization (third vaccination) or for booster vaccinations.
Velneva was one of the vaccines that many vaccine skeptics seem to have been waiting for. “I am afraid that this will not have a very large effect on the willingness to vaccinate,” suspected virologist Monika Redlberger-Fritz on Friday in the ZiB2. Those who have not yet been vaccinated will probably not change their opinion because of new dead vaccines.

But which people from the group of vaccinated people should currently be vaccinated at all? “We know that we need three stitches for a good, robust basic immunization,” said Redlberger-Fritz. Above all, the booster vaccination for children is now recommended, because it is to be expected that “the wave will rise once more” when school starts.
According to the expert, a new, larger corona wave can probably be expected in October and November. “We will have increased virus activity once more.” And then you have to decide whether stricter measures are needed once more, according to the virologist, who praised the stricter path taken by the Vienna state government.
