Viridiana Parra Marín is 20 years old, a medical student at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), a Paralympic athlete and also a wheelchair user since she experienced an incident in her childhood that caused a spinal cord injury.
At the age of six, Viridiana was traveling with her family from Veracruz, when the bus that was taking them was robbed and a bullet hit her spinal cord, resulting in motor disability.
This is how he dedicated himself to pursuing his two great passions: medicine and sports, where his efforts earned him a gold medal at the CONADE 2022 Paranational Games in the 100-meter dash category.
Viridiana came to Paralympic athletics following trying out swimming and tennis. When she started in adapted sports, her coach noticed her great athletic abilities and suggested she try a sports wheelchair.
After only six months of training, Viridiana had already won a gold medal representing UNAM, which was a great source of pride for her.
“Representing UNAM is a source of pride for me. I always wanted to be here, and now that I have a medal, it’s very fulfilling. It’s like giving him back a part of the happiness he has given me”, shares the young woman.
