French cinema shines in Venice during this 79th edition of the Mostra. After Athena by Romain Gavras and in the parallel sections “The Origin of Evil” by Sébastien Marnier and “La Syndicalist” by Jean-Paul Salomé, among others, it is “The Children of Others” which is screened in competition this Sunday. New film by Rebecca Zlotowski (“An Easy Girl”), “The Children of Others” portrays Rachel, a dashing forty-something who, falling in love with Ali, becomes attached to Leila, her 4-year-old daughter. Rachel is the Belgian actress Virginia Efira, who gives the reply to Roschdy Zem.
The latter said he was flattered to have been chosen for this film during the press conference. “When Rebecca offers me the film, I feel like a privileged Alex Reed in this story, in this sorority,” explained the actor. “He is a character who is confronted with a modernity of which he does not yet have the codes. He experiences feelings but does not yet know how to formulate them or how to manage them within his couple, ”he added. As for Virginie Efira, she cited Gustave Flaubert as a way to understand her character: “Anything watched long enough becomes interesting,” she said.
“The Children of Others” will be released on September 21 in French cinemas.
