Virginia, the ‘Bermuda Triangle’ of politics

-The ‘electoral pork rind’

-Applicants, seek to “put out the fire”

-4 applicants for the Assembly for the Port

By Álvaro Rodríguez Hernández

The Bermuda Triangle, of the upcoming elections, might be the municipality of Virginia. Applicants seek not to fall into the ongoing administrative deficit.

Recently, the Attorney General’s Office “stopped dead”, a questioned process where public lighting was going to be tendered. There were other aspects that the public did not like: the coliseum and the so-called Sopinga linear park.

PUT OUT THE FIRE

There is a string of applicants, dressed as firefighters to “put out the fire” left by the incumbent, José Villada, who has been criticized for the lack of good administration and management.

The Port on the Cauca River has a long government deficit, which many fear due to the difficulties it faces.

Several projects appear, such as the logistics platform of the coffee region -PLEC-, the construction of a regional SENA, crime, a double or triple carriageway between Cerritos (Pereira) and this hot town just 30 minutes from the capital.

THE CRINK

Wherever you look at it, La Virginia is a “chicharrón”, which few want to “put a tooth in”.

Outstanding, in this range, for his career in the public and private sectors, is the former director of Government Royalties and former mayor, Benjamín Villa.

Curiously, the balance in red will have to be faced by 3 or 4 candidates for the Assembly, including the former liberal mayors, Javier Ocampo López and Hermán Calvo Pulgarín, and the councilor for Radical Change, María Eugenia Giraldo. Another candidate – who seeks to put out the electoral conflagration – is the former commander of the Pereira Fire Department, Alexander Rojas.

Ocampo closed and opened in 2023, with pure work in the liberal front. He has recognition.

THESE ARE

Other names, in that political bubble, close it:

-Juan Carlos Botero, former radical change and former aspirant and today with liberal support.

-The councilor and president of the conservative party, Luis Hernando Ríos.

– Carlos Augusto Lozano.

In that crazy race and whose aspirations were “one day flower” or raised balloons, with bad fire, Willy Cardona, Nelson Pulido, Patricia Mesa, José Fernando Moncada, Daniel Taborda, who aspires to the council.
