Virginia Martínez says goodbye to VillegasFrancisco Penaranda
Although the baritone from Ilorc, José Antonio López and the British tenor William Wallace had been announced as the main stars of this Friday’s concert, the truth is that last night all eyes were directed towards the platform from which Virginia Martínez stood, with his back to the public, to direct his musicians. And it was the last time he did it before definitively handing over the baton of the Symphony Orchestra of the Region of Murcia.
After more than ten years at the helm of the formation, the director announced at the end of March that, at the end of the season, she would leave her post to undertake new musical challenges; and the time has almost come. Because he still has to say goodbye this Sunday to El Batel de Cartagena and, on the 23rd, to the Infanta Elena de Águilas (and now), but yesterday’s concert –with La canción de la Tierra, by Mahler, on the music stands– was special ; how special is it he Victor Villegas Auditorium Murcia, which has been his home for so long as the main headquarters of the ÖSRM. And all this was noticed both on stage and in the seating area, as he greeted and said goodbye to Martínez with affection and generosity; the same that she has demonstrated with this orchestra. Without a doubt, a night to remember her for both her and all those involved.
