A 17-year-old rapper from Virginia, Rylo Huncho, has tragically died following shooting himself in the head while trying to shoot a music video for social media.

As seen in the video, the 17-year-old musician was filming his stories on Instagram and made a fatal mistake that cost him his life. The teenager plays with a gun and at one point disables its safety, points it at his head and a green laser marks him. Suddenly a gunshot is heard, the camera leaves his hands and the video ends.

Virginia State Police did not name the rapper, but confirmed that “a 17-year-old male died of an accidental gunshot wound to his head.” According to information from Dailymail, he was taken to a local hospital, where he was eventually pronounced dead.

Members of his family have set up a Gofundme in an effort to raise $15,000 to cover funeral expenses. “My aunt recently lost her 17-year-old son,” relatives wrote. “He was her only son! She raised him on her own, but she took care of him as best she might,” they said, adding: “We’re all trying to understand why she did this.”

A cousin of his, who created the page, said his death was an accident and the family is still trying to understand the circumstances that led to the tragic event.

Rylo Huncho, as his stage name was, was a promising young rap artist from the state of Virginia, who was amassing over 25,000 followers on Instagram. His posts have been filled with messages of condolences, although there are some who do not believe the 17-year-old is dead.
