It was only a maiden race for four-year-olds and older, but sometimes the sound makes the music. That was definitely the case in Dortmund on Sunday, when Virginia Cat, trained by Marcel Weiß for the Auenquelle stud farm, won the 2050 meter test on her debut.

Sean Byrne rode the 4-year-old Soldier Hollow daughter, a full sister to multiple Group II winner Virginia Joy, with complete confidence to an easy 3-length victory, even going down the stretch at first.

Nevertheless, the 2.0:1 favorite easily got a grip on Laura Vici (Sascha Smrczek/Miguel Lopez), who had been torn out at the front. Third place went to Yes I Can Win (Toni Potters/Sibylle Vogt).

“She had offered herself at home. But every race has to be won first. I was a bit worried regarding the ground, but the turf here in Dortmund is good,” said winning coach Marcel Weiß following the race.
