British bank Virgin Money is to close almost a third of its branches in the UK, the latest in the industry to reduce its network in the country, as customers increasingly turn to online transactions.
A total of 39 Virgin Money branches will be closed with 91 remaining across the country, and 255 jobs are at risk, said a statement received by AFP on Friday.
The banking establishment argues that the number of transactions in branches has fallen by around 43% since the Covid-19 pandemic.
Last year, the consumer association Which! estimated that half of the UK’s 10,000 agencies would disappear between 2015 and the end of 2022.
