Liverpool defender Virgil van Dyck responded forcefully to former Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal following he claimed that the 2022 World Cup was rigged in favor of Lionel Messi and Argentina.

What did Van Gaal say?

On Tuesday, ESPN quoted Van Gaal as saying:

I don’t want to talk regarding the last World Cup and what happened there. If you see how Argentina score goals and how we score goals and how some of the Argentine players crossed the line and weren’t penalised, I think it’s all just a pre-planned game. I mean everything I say by that. Did Messi have to become a world champion? I think so, yes.

How did Van Dyke respond?

According to the “Sports Keda” website, Van Dyck responded to the former coach of the Netherlands national team, by saying:

I heard his statement this morning. Van Gaal can say whatever he likes, but I don’t agree with his point of view. I am not convinced by what he says and I cannot share his opinion. Even the Dutch national team does not adopt the same idea.
