Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag said that the whole country is eagerly waiting for Virat Kohli to win the ODI World Cup at home in 2023. Virender Sehwag believes that Virat Kohli will play a crucial role in India’s journey to secure the trophy in the upcoming edition of the tournament.
Virat Kohli is considered to be the best cricketer India has produced in modern cricket. Kohli is the second highest run-scorer for India in the ODI format behind the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. He scored 12898 runs in 274 ODIs at an average of 57.32 including 46 centuries.
Speaking following the announcement of the 2023 Cricket World Cup matches in Mumbai, Virender Sehwag recalled the triumphant moment when his teammates lifted Sachin Tendulkar following India’s 2011 World Cup triumph. “We played that World Cup for Tendulkar. It would have been a big loss for Sachin Paji if we had not won the World Cup. So is Virat Kohli now. Everyone is looking to win the World Cup for him. He always gives more than 100 per cent,” Sehwag told Star Sports.
“I think Virat Kohli is also looking towards this World Cup. 100,000 people will see you at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Virat knows how the pitches behave. I am sure he will score a lot of runs and will try his best to win the World Cup for India,” he added.
In 2011, India achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first host nation to win the World Cup in men’s cricket. After playing in six World Cups, the legendary Sachin Tendulkar finally got a chance to lift his first ICC trophy.
