A video showing a teacher physically attacking one of his students went viral last week on social media. The scene took place in a specialized secondary school in Bruges. The student in question is named Thymen and is 13 years old.
Our colleagues from Laatste Nieuws explain that the video was taken by another student present in the class following Thymen hit a cupboard with his hand. In the video, the teacher can be heard shouting: “Stop being stupid and making comments all the time.”
A comrade from Thymen then speaks: “You must find your smile once more, sir, otherwise he will continue to lose his temper.” This advice obviously did not please the professor who continued to ask for calm. He then approached Thymen, grabbing him by the clothes. “What can’t I do?” the teacher shouted at his student twice before letting go.
The video incriminating the professor quickly made the rounds on social networks. The young boy’s parents reacted without delay. “This is unacceptable,” explained Melissa Becu, his mother to Laatste Nieuws, “Thymen comes here to receive special education. So you would think that the teachers would know how to deal with children with ADHD, don’t is this not ?”
“My son is perhaps not the easiest, but that is why he follows specialized education, to benefit from appropriate treatment,” continues the boy’s mother. “The same week, he took my son out of class and grabbed him by the neck. This is definitely not the right way to act. If teachers already can’t control them, how are our children supposed to learn?”
Obviously, the school takes the matter very seriously, confirming the facts. The school management issued a statement: “The management has scheduled a meeting with the teacher, and a conversation has already taken place with the student’s mother and the boy himself.
