Doubleheader: Violin Virtuoso Hosts Brazilian Guitar Star in Riga Performances
Due to overwhelming demand, a second concert featuring violinist Robert Balana has been added to his Riga schedule. The spectacular performance will now take place on consecutive nights, December 13th and 14th, with the second concert scheduled for the 30th floor of Zunda Towers.
A Unique Collaboration Brings Brazilian Flair to Latvian Stage
This will be Bandung’s first foray into Latvia and is a testament to his
growing international recognition. Balana has also curated a special treat for his Latvian fans, revealing that celebrated Brazilian guitarist Plinio Fernandes will join him as a special guest for both performances.
“I met Plinio during my studies at the Royal Academy in London, where we regularly played together and improvised in different genres as friends. I have been dreaming of creating a joint concert program for a long time, and I am especially happy that we will be able to realize it right in Latvia,” says Balana.
Fernandes, a rising star in the classical music world, is renowned for his captivating style which blends traditional classical guitar with the vibrant soundscape of Brazilian folk music. His debut album, “Saudade,” released in 2022, soared to the top of the Billboard Traditional Classical Albums Chart, catapulting him to international prominence. He followed this success with his second album, “Bacheando,” released this past September.
His talent has earned him a place on Brazil‘s Forbes 30 under 30 list, recognizing his remarkable achievements at such a young age.
Fernandes is a sought-after collaborator, regularly sharing the stage with renowned musicians such as cellist Shek Kaneh-Mason and pianist Lang Lang. He has also become a prominent figure on Classic FM.
The concerts promise to be a thrilling fusion of genres and cultures. Balana’s masterful violin skills, combined with Fernandes’ virtuoso guitar playing and dynamic stage presence, create an irresistible draw for music lovers.
The doubleheader concerts are anticipated to be a highlight of Riga’s musical calendar, offering audiences a chance to experience world-class talent and a unique musical dialogue.
