“But you have to be completely crazy to do that in broad daylight.” This is the direct comment of a customer crossing a Place de l’Ange in full buying fever.
In the middle of the square, wedged between two businesses, a modest shop is difficult to see. Its shutter, half lowered and askew, hides the sign. This is the Peters jewelry store, a more than century-old house, specializing since 1915 in 18-carat gold jewelry set with precious stones.
As night fell, police officers were still on guard behind a space protected by tape, forcing pedestrians to step off the sidewalk for regarding ten meters.
Shards of glass litter the ground. Inside, investigators are combing the store. They are collecting possible fingerprints.
Without a doubt, the jewelry store has just been violently robbed.
“I heard a loud noise of windows shattering,” testifies a passer-by, who then saw a hooded man flee. He returned to the police to tell what he had seen and heard. “It happened so quickly that I didn’t have time to take a photo,” this vigilant citizen seems to regret.
According to our information, two individuals, their faces hooded, attacked the glittering windows around 3 p.m., at a busy time in the city. They actually broke the windows but we don’t know if they had time to get their hands on the jewelry on display and take away any loot.
No shots were fired. No one was hurt.
Still according to witnesses, a very young person was arrested. The other robber is still on the run. They were clearly not professionals.
The Namur public prosecutor’s office is expected to provide more details on this violent theft in the evening.
