Eyewitnesses told the BBC that armed groups on motorcycles and four-wheel drive vehicles stormed the market in the city of El Geneina, the capital of West Darfur, and looted, following a violent attack on the city yesterday, which led to clashes.

In addition, the deputy chief of police in Darfur, Brigadier General Abdel-Baqi al-Hassan al-Ahmad, was assassinated during the clashes, according to eyewitnesses who spoke to the BBC, whose names have not been released for their safety.
