A general fight involving around fifteen police officers from the number 1 intervention brigade of the Brussels West police zone and around twenty Brussels residents aged 14 and 16 took place on Thursday 1 June, during a descent of the Lesse , reports Sudpresse.
Nine police officers were injured, four of them seriously.
According to Sudpresse, the police were all under the influence of alcohol when the general fight broke out. This would have taken place because young people flirted with police officers from the brigade.
Among the injuries observed in the police, Sudpresse also notes broken ribs, a perforated eardrum, a torn hand tendon and a broken jaw. After this general brawl, a police officer allegedly made racist remarks once morest the young people and also attacked one of her colleagues who was trying to calm her down by spitting on her.
The Namur public prosecutor’s office has been informed of the facts but is currently refusing to comment. “We haven’t received all the PVs yet, so it’s hard to confirm anything. But this case is taken very seriously and the investigation will be entrusted to a specialized investigation service“, explains Marie Roquiny, spokesperson for the Namur prosecution.
Some of the police officers involved in this general fight were also part of the 11 police officers who participated, at the end of 2020 at the Molenbeek-Saint-Jean police station, in a raclette in violation of the health rules then in force.
At that time, end-of-year holiday meals were limited to a restricted family bubble due to the extent of the spread of the coronavirus.
