Violent battles in Sudan, and Al-Burhan warns of rapid support

Sudan – The head of the Transitional Sovereignty Council in Sudan, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, said yesterday, Wednesday, that there will be no negotiations, no peace, and no ceasefire until the Rapid Support Forces are defeated, at a time when battles continued between the two parties in different regions of the country.

When he inspected the army forces on the front lines of the Nile River State in the north of the country, the army commander stressed that “there will be no stopping the fighting until the rebellion is defeated and these criminal rebels are freed so that this country can live in peace.”

Meanwhile, a military source told Al Jazeera Net that violent battles continued in many areas, including Khartoum, Al-Jazira, Al-Obeid, Al-Fasher and Sinnar, and heavy and medium weapons were used.

The source said that the Rapid Support Forces launched an attack on the Sudanese Army Signal Corps camp in the Bahri suburb, north of Khartoum, and the army was able to repel the attack and destroy a T-55 tank, in addition to destroying a number of combat vehicles.

The source added that the battles broke out at dawn on Wednesday and continued until the evening of the same day, stressing that the Rapid Support Forces launched 4 successive attacks, to which the army responded with artillery and drones.

The Bahri region also witnessed violent confrontations between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, which seek to control the headquarters of the army’s Signal Corps.

The military source stated that violent attacks took place in the town of Umm al-Qura, east of Madani (center of the country), where the Rapid Support Forces attacked the army defenses and inflicted some losses on them, indicating that the army’s defenses are still concentrated in the Wadfishaqah area, east of Madani.

The army seeks to control the city of Wad Madani, as it intensifies its military sorties across several axes, including the eastern, southern and western areas of Madani.

Sources reported that clashes renewed yesterday evening, Wednesday, in the city of El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan State (central), one day after the army announced its control of the Mount Kordofan site.

The outskirts of Al-Obeid witnessed exchange of artillery shelling, with the intervention of the army’s warplanes, which repulsed the Rapid Support Forces that were seeking to regain control of the headquarters of Mount Kordofan.

In El Fasher (southwest), sources reported that warplanes launched an attack on rapid support positions east of the city and inflicted military losses on them.

The Rapid Support Forces are deployed heavily east and north of El Fasher in preparation for an upcoming battle with the army, amid international warnings of the repercussions of the fighting on thousands of displaced people from the cities of Darfur.

Since mid-April 2023, Sudan has been suffering from a war between the army led by Al-Burhan and the Rapid Support Forces led by Muhammad Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti), which left about 15,000 people dead and about 8.5 million displaced and refugees, according to the United Nations.
