Two young people were arrested this Friday, January 12, 2024 in the night following a particularly violent attack on two men who made the sole mistake of crossing their path in the middle of the night in the center of Perpignan.
Everyone who has seen these two men is unanimous. Their completely swollen faces bear witness to the violence of the attack to which they were victims last Friday in the heart of Perpignan.
Around 4 a.m., avenue du Maréchal-Leclerc, officers from the police emergency night intervention unit noticed the behavior of two suspects who seemed to be lying in wait for passers-by to try to extract a few tickets from them. They seem to be leaving the sector. However, the alert is quickly given for an attack nearby…
According to initial information, the suspects approached two men, aged 32 and 35, who were leaving a night establishment near Place Méditerranéenne and asked them for money. The victims allegedly simply refused when they were immediately beaten, then thrown to the ground and kicked and punched in the head.
The police intervened immediately, arresting one of the attackers at the Archipelago footbridge while he was trying to get rid of a cell phone stolen from the thirty-year-olds. The second fled and was quickly caught by the municipal police.
Aged 20 and 23, they were both taken into police custody. At the end of their hearing, they admitted the facts and were presented this Monday, January 15 for immediate appearance before the criminal court of Perpignan for “aggravated violence having resulted in an ITT of less than 8 days”. After requesting time to prepare their defense, the hearing was postponed until February 19. The youngest was released under judicial supervision with an obligation to clock in, restriction of outing hours and obligation for psychiatric care. The eldest, a repeat offender, was kept in detention.
