A teacher in Syracuse, New York, was violently beaten in front of her classroom by a mother who broke her jaw.
According to local media reports Tuesday, Lynzina Sutton, 31, entered Lincoln Middle School last Friday morning and went looking for a teacher. When she found her, she went into her classroom and punched her in the face.
The professor suffered significant injuries, including a broken nasal bone, a broken jaw and a concussion.
“These are injuries that you don’t even see in a boxing match, so they are quite serious,” insisted District Attorney William Fitzpatrick, quoted by the Syracuse.com news site.
A 4′ 10” tornado
The school’s superintendent, Anthony Davis, explained in a press briefing with local media that the mother acted out of revenge. The day before, the girl had a run-in with school security after lying about her whereabouts, and allegedly threatened to let her mother “take care of it.”
Lynzina Sutton actually showed up at school the next day, accompanied by the teenager’s grandmother. While the oldest of the duo was intercepted by security, the mother was able to infiltrate the establishment. Security would have mistaken her for a student because she is only 4′ 10” (1.47 m) tall and was wearing a hoodie, Mr. Davis said.
The school principal tried to intervene and calm things down, according to the superintendent’s account of the events and summarized by Syracuse.com, but the mother was nevertheless able to leave the school after hitting the teacher.
The woman was arrested and charged within hours of the attack and will now face justice.
