Big altercation last Thursday, at noon time, in front of the entrance to the Koekelberg Royal Athenaeum. The police intervened in force and arrested a group of adults who wanted to enter the establishment to do battle with three students from the school with whom they had come into conflict outside the school.

“The students have returned to class. They were followed by adults, who wanted to enter the school. They were very aggressive, insulting. Several of them, educators, headmaster and myself, managed to push them back outside while waiting for the police”, explains the director of the athenaeum Claudine Snaps. “We alerted the police and filed a complaint.” The police identified the identity of the belligerents. “At no time were the students put in danger”, comments the organizing power Wallonie Bruxelles Enseignement.

”First time that we are alerted in the vicinity of the athenaeum”

The Brussels West police zone confirms the intervention. “This is a violent robbery on the public highway for which the victims took refuge in the athenaeum”, specifies the zone, which drew up a report. “The investigation is ongoing”.

For the director, this is an isolated, anecdotal fact. “The establishment has a good image, it does not know of acts of serious violence”. However, three weeks earlier, on March 30, a person came to testify to the police regarding “several fights between young people around the koekelbergeois athenaeum”. However, the police zone has not registered any complaints concerning this or these facts.

Nevertheless, “the police sent patrols around the area as a precaution. So far, no arrests have been made. […] This is the first time that we have received this kind of report “in the immediate vicinity of the athenaeum”.
