A new homicide was added to the list that has transformed the iconic Washington Square Park into a red light district in Lower Manhattan, although it is in the middle of the NYU university area.

A 35 year old man died stabbed yesterday there in broad daylight, in the closure of a long-standing dispute with some homeless people from the area, according to police sources.

The victim was confronted by two brothers, one of whom stabbed him in the left side of the chest at the north end of the park around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, a busy time in the park, it reported. Daily News.

Paris Cooper (48), homeless from the area who witnessed yesterday’s crime, said the victim was not a homeless man, but he used to intimidate those who sleep in the park.

The unidentified victim was taken to the local Lenox Hill Healthplex Greenwich Village hospital, where he died of his injuries. The sources said that cameras caught the aftermath of the murder, but no weapons have been recovered.

Police are looking for the brothers suspected of the attack who apparently lived in the park and fled. Cooper said the two of them and the victim had a long-standing dispute, but he didn’t know the source.
