What began as a day to enjoy soccer as a couple ended almost in tragedy on Friday night in the middle of the Deportivo Cali-América classic, which was held last Friday at the Palmaseca Stadium.

“We only went to see the stadium and because we like football, to watch people play. We are from Nariño, but we work in Cali, that is why we were there that day,” the citizen assured El País.

After a calm first half, the young man and his partner were scolded by two men, who questioned them for not having Deportivo Cali shirts. “We dressed in normal, casual clothes, and they suddenly approached me to ask me what had happened to my shirt, why I didn’t have a Cali shirt and I told them that I hadn’t really worn it,” said the young man.

Even though he told the men that it was his first time in that stadium and that he had no knowledge that he had to wear a team’s shirt, these men began to threaten him. “At one point they took my cell phone and started to lift my shirt to see if I had tattoos, I told them that I am from Nariño, but they said that everyone had to wear a shirt and they started shouting that I was an infiltrator,” the man explained.

Upon hearing that code word, dozens of people came to where the couple was sitting, in the north stand at the top and began to attack him with kicks, fists and insults. “When I realized it, everyone was already on top of me to beat me and rip off my shirt. “I was trying to protect myself, but that crowd of people was hitting me, I was trying to push myself down the stairs, because wherever I stay still they kill me up there.”

When he reached the lower part of the stand, some police officers observed him, however, their help was not what the attacked young man expected. “I arrived downstairs almost without clothes, they stole everything from me, and what the police told me was ‘get lost before they kill you’, I left the stadium totally alone, beaten, with only my pants and I mightn’t go back to look for my friend.” my wife, because if I returned they would kill me,” the victim added.

Worried that his partner would be attacked, he arrived at the parking lot where he had kept the motorcycle to wait for his wife to come out. However, minutes passed and she did not arrive, so the logistics staff and a paramedic treated him at the parking lot. place, but due to the severity of his injuries he was transferred to the Versalles Clinic in Cali.

Already at the healthcare center he was able to meet his wife, who was saved from being attacked thanks to a fan who protected her and helped her leave the stadium. “She told me that women had come with knives to tell her that they were going to cut her hair and attack her, but one of the Cali fans managed to pull her out,” she said.

Due to the severe injuries he received from these subjects, the young man, who works at a gasoline pump, was hospitalized for one day and received a disability for five days, which can be extended following a new medical evaluation.

“I have injuries all over my body, as soon as I arrived at the clinic they did a CT scan because I had too many blows to my head and they told me that I have a fracture in the skull, but it is not from surgery because it is closed,” the doctors told him.

Despite the beatings he received, the young man stated that he has not been able to file a complaint and that although his wife went to the police station in their neighborhood to receive guidance, she was not assertive. “They told him that in that case it was hard, they didn’t give him many answers.”

According to the victim, the authorities did not carry out protection tasks in his case, since it was the same citizen who managed to get off the platform and look for an exit.

“Football is a healthy sport, to enjoy, I can’t believe that for the simple fact of not wearing a team’s shirt they almost killed me. I did see the authorities very badly, they have to be respected and protect lives, even more so when one goes to a healthy event and so that these acts of intolerance do not occur. “I don’t know why the Police go to the stadiums if they don’t care regarding people’s lives,” concluded the attacked young man.
