Violence against women: more than 23,000 cases brought to justice in 2021

Kiosk360. Despite the entry into force since 2018 of a law on combating violence once morest women, this phenomenon is still very widespread. Details in this press review from the daily Al Ahdath Al Maghrbia.

Violence once morest women is a real social scourge that continues to grow from year to year. This is also an observation that was noted by the presidency of the General Prosecutor’s Office. Which says a lot regarding its magnitude, given, and everyone agrees, that the cases that come before the courts are only the tip of the iceberg.

And precisely, the figure put forward by the President of the General Prosecutor’s Office, quoted by the daily Al Ahdath Al Maghribia in its edition of Thursday, September 29, is disturbing to say the least. In 2021 alone, the public prosecutor handled no less than 23,879 cases relating to violence once morest women, the official said. Moulay El Hassan Daki, who spoke at a training session, organized Wednesday in Marrakech, on strengthening the role of the public prosecutor’s office in the protection of women, underlined on this occasion that this figure challenges all the actors concerned and encourages them to redouble their efforts to identify the causes of this violence.

“Violence once morest women constitutes an obstacle to the achievement of social peace. So far the legislator has done his job. Law 103-13 on the fight once morest violence once morest women, which came into force in 2018, is indeed a revolution in the Moroccan legal arsenal. It has enabled the Kingdom to have a comprehensive legal framework to combat violence once morest women in all its forms,” Daki points out.

Obviously this has not stemmed this phenomenon. However, assures the senior official of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the Public Prosecutor’s Office has done well by all means at its disposal to ensure its full application. This is how, explains the daily, still quoting the President of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, since the entry into force of this law, the public prosecutor has sent circulars to the public prosecutor’s office near the various courts of the Kingdom encouraging the king’s prosecutors to implement all the new provisions provided for by this law and above all to ensure that they are properly applied.

These magistrates were also encouraged to note all the problems they encountered in the interpretation and application of the provisions of this law. Information days have also been organized around this new text, with the aim of better protection, and above all more effective protection, of women once morest all forms of violence.

Moreover, as its president points out, the conception of the General Prosecutor’s Office of violence once morest women is broad and also encompasses the question of the marriage of minors which, affirms El Hassan Daki, is considered a form of violence once morest women. It is a violation, he says, of the right of young girls to their moral development and the construction of their personality.

This is why the General Prosecutor’s Office, continues the daily, has made the fight once morest early marriage one of its priorities. The king’s prosecutors across the country have been mobilized in this direction. This resulted in a sharp increase in the number of rejections of marriage applications from minors. The number of rejected applications thus fell from 12,773 in 2020 to 20,200 the following year.
