AS with the 2024 General Election, the implementation of the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections also began with the voter data updating stage. The General Election Commission (KPU) through the voter data updating committee (pantarlih) conducted matching and research (coklit) by visiting residents’ homes one by one. However, many violations have been found in a number of regions related to the implementation of coklit.

Director of Democracy and Electoral Empowerment Partnership (DEEP) Neni Nur Hayati said that the problem of violations during the early stages of the implementation of regional elections or updating of voter data is a classic problem. However, she considered the KPU’s risk mitigation to be very weak. In addition to the coklit problem, her party also found pantarlih who were indicated to still be members of political parties.

“Bawaslu should prevent and handle violations related to this process, not just provide recommendations without sanctions,” Neni told Media Indonesia, Monday (22/7).

The coklit stage that culminates in the process of compiling the temporary voter list (DPS), continued Neni, can be problematic because the recruitment process for pantarlih is not transparent and accountable. DEEP, she said, found pantarlih who could not show their appointment decrees when coklit.

The phenomenon of coklit carried out by non-SK pantarlih is also known as coklit jockey. So far, Neni said there have been 37 pantarlih who have not been able to show their appointment SK.

“I think this is a serious problem because it concerns the legitimacy of the data that is being checked. Bawaslu should be able to give strict sanctions,” said Neni. (Z-6)
