Several players from the Vinotinto men’s and women’s soccer teams spoke out through their social networks to express their opinion on the results of the presidential elections last Sunday, July 28.

What the Vinotintos think

The athletes who shared their opinions are the Vinotintos: Juan Arago, Deyna Castellanos, the “Witch” Martinez among other athletes, who are aware and concerned about the situation the country is currently experiencing.

Footballer Juan Arango posted the following:

“I want to take a moment to express my firm desire for peace to reign in our beloved country Venezuela and for the will of all citizens to be respected. I regret not having been more active on social media lately and I understand that some may have interpreted this in a negative way. I have never been a social media person, I do not upload stories or content on a daily basis. Even on match days for my national team that I love so much. I have received many attacks lately, but my concern for our country and its future has not changed. My intention has always been to support and promote a more just and peaceful Venezuela. We are in this together.”

For her part, Deyna Castellanos, through the social network of “X” expressed:

The Press Newspaper

“There is always a very strong public opinion surrounding athletes regarding whether or not to talk about politics, since we are part of a federation and represent a country and many times we find ourselves in situations that we did not ask for, especially when we are minors. There can always be consequences, but I am willing to accept them. Venezuela wants change and ratified it by voting. I hope that all relevant national and international entities do justice to the truth. I also call for them to put down their weapons and let the Venezuelan people express their discontent in peace and democracy. Yes, I am an athlete, but above all Venezuelan.”
