It’s that time once more. The CIES Football Observatory has updated the list of the 100 most valuable football players. The old champions Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are not there once more. The mega coal list is now led by Kylian Mbappé with a market value of 206 million euros. The Frenchman overtakes previous leaders Vinicius Junior (€185m) and new Manchester City striker Erling Haaland (€153m).
The researchers at the “Football Observatory” justify the fact that Mbappé is back at the top of the list with his contract extension by three years at Paris St-Germain.
Pedri Gonzalez (Barcelona), Jude Bellingham (Borussia Dortmund), Phil Foden (Manchester City), Frenkie de Jong (Barcelona), Luis Diaz (Liverpool), Ruben Dias (Manchester City) and Ferran Torres (Manchester City). Among the ten most expensive footballers, only one is from Champions League winners Real Madrid. The second most expensive of the Blancos is only in 21st place and is called Eder Militao.

Unsurprisingly, however, most of the top 100 most valuable players in the Premier League are earning their living. 41 kickers are active in England. Then comes the Spanish LaLiga with 21 and the Italian Serie A with 14 professionals. Just behind the podium is the German Bundesliga with 13 stars.
The same picture emerges when you filter the list by nationality. England is represented by 18 players in the mega-coal list. Hardly any nation can keep up. Brazil follows with 11 and France with 9 footballers. You won’t find a Swiss among the hundred most valuable. (cef)
