On August 10, 2024, the 52nd regular session of the Bundestag of the Austrian Students’ Union met with approximately 250 guests at the Kaufmannes Association Palace in Linz. There, Vincent Reisner of Upper Austria was elected as the new Federal President of the Student Union with 98.2% of the vote. At his side, Julian Schindler was appointed federal manager of the association.
“In recent years, daily life in Austrian schools has changed significantly due to developments such as increasing digitalization. As a student union, we advocate a courageous education policy and want to actively work towards the vision of an ideal school and seize the opportunities that await us in the coming year ! ” emphasized the newly elected Federation President Vincent Reisner.
“We are very proud of our preparations over the past few years and now hope to build on this. We have embraced our responsibility as the largest student organization and therefore an important voice and hope to continue inspiring people with passion in the coming year. We are also proud that we have been able to appoint a Federation School Representative for the 20th time in a row!” said Julian Schindler, new Federation Managing Director.
With more than 30,000 members, the Students’ Union is probably the most important voice for students in Austria. Services such as the school’s legal emergency hotline and numerous workshops, events and programs are made possible by the voluntary commitment of numerous officers. In the next academic year, students will again hold an absolute majority in 23 of the 29 mandates of the Federal Student Representative Council (BSV). The student unions also hold a majority in the State Student Representatives (LSV) and Central Student Representatives (ZSV) in the nine federal states. Through this constructive and professional representation, the student unions express the concerns of Austrian students to education policymakers.
